(Billerica, MA) Established in 1970, Aerodyne
Research Inc. has grown to become a global leader of
state-of-the-art research and development services, and advanced
instrumentation for addressing national and international
environmental and energy challenges. The company provides research
services and develops particle instruments, gas phase instruments
and other technologies for a wide variety of scientific
applications, including atmosphere, agronomy, emissions,
geochemistry and health.
The company exports to countries throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia/Pacific region, totaling over 40 countries worldwide, including Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, UK, Morocco, Brazil, Australia, China, Japan and South Korea, among several others.
The company has been exporting for over 25 years and first received support from the Massachusetts Export Center in 2018. The Export Center assisted Aerodyne Research with all aspects of its global trade operations, ranging from customs compliance, including de minimis and origin, HTS classification, tariff determination and exemptions, duty drawback ; export controls compliance, such as screening, OFAC 50% Rule, AES reporting, Foreign Direct Product Rule (FDPR); shipping, including temporary exports and warranties; free trade agreements, related documentation and due diligence, and more.
The Export Center also provided guidance on eligible activities for the STEP Grant, which resulted in a grant being awarded to the company, allowing Aerodyne to exhibit at four global conferences in 2018 and 2019. Participation in these conferences directly resulted in nearly $500,000 in export sales for the company.
Dr. David Nelson [photo], president of Aerodyne Research, Inc., regularly speaks at global conferences on behalf of the company. He also participated as a panelist during the Massachusetts Export Center’s annual Export Expo in January 2025, which is the largest export event of the year serving the New England region. The company also plans on participating and exhibiting at several international trade shows in 2026.
The Massachusetts Export Center continues to engage with Aerodyne through advising on global trade operations, export controls and customs compliance. Aerodyne staff has also actively participated in many of the Export Center’s training programs and the company is an active member of the Export Center’s Compliance Alliance initiative.
Aerodyne Research Inc. continues to grow internationally, having grown its exports from 50% in 2021 to 62% in 2023, and currently has a staff of 70. The Massachusetts Export Center was delighted to nominate Aerodyne Research for the 2026 SBA Exporter of the Year recently and are hoping for a favorable outcome.
